When I played COD (whatever the last one was before this most recent release) I loved playing shipment for laughs. Hide in a corner and setup claymores while aiming my shotgun down sight. Stupid stuff like that. I’d be 10-30 by the end but I’d have so much fun. To me it’s almost like an arcade mode.
Imagine how bad it’ll get with generative AI only getting better. Think about someone like Linus Tech Tips getting hacked and an AI video getting uploaded of him telling his users to go sign up for a chance to win some $5000 PC “we’re giving 500 away!” and that site which won’t even have to look like anything other than “someMadeUpBrand.com/giveaway/linus”. It’s crazy to even think about how many people would fall for that shit. If the AI is good enough I might fall for it and I’m pretty damn good at catching it (for now).
Maybe not super slow paced like Squad but super slow paced compared to today’s COD.

Back when you’d hold positions and provide cover fire while someone would slowly push up or flank etc. It was a much different game before MW released.
I used to play this at gaming cafes in the early/mid 2000s with my buddies before we all had proper gaming computers alongside Battlefield 1942. Definitely not confusing it for Operation Flashpoint haha.
When this game came out I hated it because I loved the original Call of Duty games that were super slow paced and more realistic. But eventually it became my main game playing till 4am on Xbox with friends. I miss the simplicity of COD MW.
And I always anticipate an “unexpected” crash that almost never happens. Even in shows where it would never happen.
It’s like when people that cheat on others in their relationships start accusing their partners of cheating or have major trust issues because of their guilt (or whatever it is). And by that same logic I conclude that Nickmercs is a pedo (if he can do it with the LGBTQ community without evidence then he wouldn’t mind me making similarly wild claims about him, right?).
I haven’t read anything about the game yet but just based on this trailer I’m getting a Dark Tide meets Helldivers vibe and I’m all for it.

It was also one of the only (that I can remember aside from maybe SUSE - maaaybe Slack?) actually putting their distro in stores back in the 90s. I was a middle schooler and used Christmas money to buy RedHat at Best Buy (I had no idea what I was doing) because I thought it was the distro to get. I can’t remember a single other distro more synonymously associated with Linux than RedHat because they were marketed hard and were widely available for purchase which I’m guessing made them at least appear more legitimate to new Linux consumer and business adopters.
The first thing I thought was “what’s the alternative?” If I don’t do biometrics on my phone then why would I do it for my credit card? I’m American so I don’t have to worry about this yet but it’s probably an indicator of what’s coming here.
Agreed. I am not a fantasy fan for games really at all (with very few exceptions) but this looks so rad. The combination of tech and fantasy looks like a wild ride.
When I first saw the trailer I thought it was official. My heart broke when I learned the truth. Been playing Half Life since the original came out in 1998. That was an amazing Thanksgiving as a 14yr old.
I remember being at Costco with my mom and back then they had tables set up in the entrance with tons of software and game boxes and I looked at the back of the box and thought “cool! I want it!”. Asked my mom if I could get it as an early Christmas gift who never said yes to that kind of thing and she said yes. I couldn’t believe it.
I remember playing it and being so confused in the intro when you’re on the train/tram because I couldn’t figure out how to get off. I was so used to FPS games like Quake and Doom where you just clicked “new game” and were just dropped into the action or there were basic cinematics setting up the story. The build up to the action was so unique at the time it blew me away.

I regret looking haha but it was enlightening. Almost literally every single comment was someone angry about someone they’ve never met. It was like they were manifesting their ideal enemy in their comments to be angry at them.

Perfectly reasonable to ban someone from completely unrelated communities like mechanical keyboard and arch Linux? Come on. It’s not like they’re throwing out toxic terms or criticizing on a personal level. They’re questioning the way things are being modded. Those aren’t even attacks.
I totally missed the clip you were shocked by at first (I guess the Twitter embed didn’t load the first time). Just went back to watch it and I don’t understand how someone can be ok with saying that. Yeah I’ve heard sexist things and weird sexual harassment comments in games like valorant, overwatch, etc but that was absolutely disgusting. His casual tone says so much about him too. He’s not even laughing where you could at least say “that’s a stupid shitty joke”. He has such a real tone to it that it’s truly disturbing.
I agree with all of your points. It’s unfortunate but I think we’ve gotten to the point that people need to be properly held accountable. Don’t just ban them from the game, ban them from the entire platform and report them to local authorities for that. Hell, when someone is this nasty someone on the community team should send it to their employer. It’s clearly a threat even if he has no way to see it through. This isn’t just calling someone trash, or telling a woman to “go back to the kitchen”. These people need to learn what real consequences are. It’s truly disgusting behavior.

My best guess is karma farming so they can sell them off. Probably create hundreds of accounts they can sell off. If some brand buys an account that looks reputable for $20-$100 to use it for astroturfing then that’s a pretty good deal for both sides. Shitty deal for everyone else.
