So the comic is a lie to give us feelings.
But mulching leaves is so much better than raking and removal. All those nutrients, gone.

Even a hypothetically true artificial general intelligence would still not be a moral agent
That’s a deep rabbit hole that can’t be stated as a known fact. It’s absolutely true right now with LLMs, but at some point the line could be crossed. If and when, how, and by what definition has been a long debate nowhere near resolved.
It’s highly possible that AGI/ASI could come about and be both super intelligent and self conscious and still have no sense of morality. But how can we at human levels even comprehend what’s possible? There’s the real danger, we have no idea what we could be heading towards.
It could respond in other ways if it was trained to do so. My first local model was interesting as I changed its profile to have a more dark and sarcastic tone, and it was funny to see it balance that instruction with the core mode to be friendly and helpful.
The point is, current levels of LLMs are just telling you what you want to hear. But maybe that’s useful as a sounding board for your own thoughts. Just remember its limitations.
Regardless of how far AI tech goes, the human-AI relationship is something we need to pay attention to. People will find it a good tool like OP, but it can be easy to get sucked into thinking it’s more than it is and becoming a problem.
Neither is bossa nova/samba (TOS) or a country ballad (Firefly).
It had its issues, but for the time it was good. Probably depended on the machine and what you were running. That was back in the days when making things work meant the right drivers, and the Win98SE CD usually made it work.
ME was so bad that MS forgot about it themselves. I bought a new laptop with ME installed that ran terribly, replaced it with 98 and it ran great.
98SE, XP, and 7 each were relatively solid for their time. They all had issues, but were far better at being an OS than what we have now or are trying to be sold to constantly upgrade to.
I think just using it as instrumental would have been fine, for some reason having lyrics for the first time scarred some fans, even though it’s really not that bad.
Is it really necessary to make it a government thing??
Yes? Why shouldn’t it be? Lots of things should be covered for anyone, as they help the overall public health. $2 may not seem like a lot, but it is for some. And…if $2 isn’t a big deal, then why not have it covered since it won’t cost the taxpayer that much.
File that one behind the what-if of a Gore Presidency. We keep missing the alternate timelines we should have taken. Here’s hoping we don’t screw up once again.
I agree that trapping a potentially violent person in, basically cornering them and escalating the situation, was a bad decision. I also agree with the court that it doesn’t fall into that category. It looks like lesser charges will still be pursued, probably more in line with negligence. It’s good that in response it’s now illegal to lock doors like that while customers are inside. I would have thought the general rule of keeping doors unlocked during business hours (as a fire code mostly) would have covered that already.
Keep in mind that being immunized protects you from developing worse conditions, not from getting it at all. Which also means you can absolutely be a carrier to others, you just won’t have it at a bad level for as long to be contagious. And the new strain is apparently more contagious (but possibly less of the rest) this time. Just wanted to add that in, because some people read the “immun” part and assume they can’t get anything. Avoiding infection is always the best way, with vaccination as protection if/when you do get it anyway.
Which still wouldn’t do what you suggest. The mass is the same, so it has the same effect from a distance. Unless by “eat earth” you meant it would take in dirt until it suck to the core, still about the same mass.
Nonsense. The event horizon on such things is incredibly small, as is the mass vs. that of Earth.
At least one brand now has a newer design that rotates the microwaves themselves to better distribute the energy. It’s a bit pricier than the standard models.
EVs have a lot of advantages over ICEs. It’s good that things are evolving finally to make EVs more than a niche. It however doesn’t remove the problem that they are still a car with all of those negatives, even if they pollute much less. In some ways providing an individual solution could harm efforts to reduce the number of cars on the road. It’s not a final solution, only a step to fix a few of the most obvious problems while retaining others.
“Kamala Harris’s policies”? Well, I guess we don’t need an election is she’s already in office making these policies exist in reality.
This isn’t anything new, I’ve seen GOP defenders in comments say the same thing. For some reason she’s already doing things outside the VP job just because she’s running for President. They sure forgot Biden fast, as well as things put into place by their favored Trump when he was slashing and burning in office. It’s the old “look at the gas prices” ignorance.
MAGA complaining that this is the federal big government getting involved in issues that they shouldn’t, ignoring that the state ban is doing exactly that for personal health for women. This needs to set a precedent to use, or rather a loophole for hospitals to use regardless of a state ban that threatens doctors with legal action for doing their job.
Easy fix - “Are there any dead leaves to protect our eggs?”
