Our city leaves free dirt out at the fire station for people to spread on their sidewalks in the winter. I grabbed some for the back ally which is very icy.

I probably only grabbed 30 lbs or so, but I was still very diligent to lift it properly. Last thing I need over the holidays is to have a sore back.

So it’s really dirt? Not sand or salt? Dirt seems to be a much better option for the plants/lawns/etc near the sidewalks when spring comes.

Ah it was a rough aggregate mixed with sand apparently with a little salt mixed in. I wish it was real dirt.

Yeah. It’s in Canada so winter snow is a fact of life. I think the rule here is with 48 hours of snow stopping, but most people try and hit it before they get too much foot traffic so you don’t end up with packed snow caked to the cement
