I have a strange fear of being engaged by trolls. The thought alone is exhausting. I may or may not take the bait but the possibility of wasting my time on a useless argument means I’m hesitant to post. Not sure if anyone else has felt like this.
I started using reddit around the whole Digg debacle. What’s that been? 13 years? Something like that. I preferred Sync and since that’s gone, I didn’t feel like being strong armed into using their dog shit app. So… Here I am.
Then what about ads by default but you can pay to remove it? I think it’s important to think about the cost structure of these “free” spaces so that they have the proper support for longevity. That being said, I feel Wikipedia is a fine example of how we could also do it, donations with some transparency on what’s needed to keep things running. But iono, I’m pretty ignorant about the true cost of running something like lemmy at scale.
