  • Hey no problem with having an opinion I just can’t stand people online spewing hyperbolic divisive type stuff, we already get enough of it from every corner of the internet

And sorry that you think having a discussion online is confrontational bullshit maybe you are just being too sensitive

I actually do agree with some of the stuff you are saying which is the funny part, the world is seeing a tilt towards far right/populist types but there is no need to fire up the bullshit with exaggerated statements

Why do you think places like Lampedusa want their borders closed you had an influx of migrants that was more than the total population of the island that’s not sustainable so it’s not just a “Italy bad” scenario

  • I find it funny that you talk of rhetoric from the media and then go right ahead and do it yourself, fair enough on how you should have phrased it but then you still stay on the same line… there are those out there smarter than me that have seen this coming

Seen what coming? Possible closing of borders? Limiting immigration? Forced immigration from climate change? Rise in populist politicians?

Straight from the Canadian Government website

    • In the 2023–2025 Immigration Levels Plan, Canada aims to welcome from 410,000 to 505,000 new permanent residents in 2023, from 430,000 to 542,500 in 2024 and from 442,500 to 550,000 in 2025. These targets are incremental record highs for Canada and reflect the government’s belief that newcomers are instrumental in driving economic growth and building our communities. Achieving these levels will also mean reuniting more families and protecting democratic and human rights on a larger scale than ever before.*

So once again you are saying Canada is talking about immigration what are you even trying to say? You are pushing your narrative

  • Don’t kid yourself, you “giving” him a few views isn’t gonna make any difference, taking a principled stance on it is like peeing in the ocean.

Just watch a few of his videos or listen to some of his podcasts, instead of letting other people give your their viewpoint on him just get your own viewpoint, do it without any bias either… pick an episode that you are interested in pick something you don’t agree with and pick something that could go either way. You might agree with some stuff and not other things but at least you determined that for yourself

I used to listen to his podcast but lost interest plus I’d only listen to the stuff I had any interest in, science and technology stuff. He had some odd views/stuff I didn’t agree with but that’s living in reality you aren’t always gonna agree with people.

  • As others here have already mentioned the infrastructure costs alone are a huge problem, where I live we are currently just trying to electrify the corridor and it’s not even the entire system, once again the overall rail infrastructure is already there (it’s just electrification) yet this is still going to take a minimum of a decade and the minimum cost is going to be more than $11bn, technically this saves money as you don’t need to buy a new fleet of rolling stock just upgrade the old ones.

So ya for a maglev you would need a completely different infrastructure and the rolling stock

  • I can see how you interpreted that last part that way I didn’t mean it like that, what I was trying to say is I’m arguing that the word disorder is strictly that it’s a genetic disorder and having it doesn’t make you any less of a person it’s a biological issue

I’m not advocating a positive mindset cures all (otherwise depression and anxiety wouldn’t exist) and people with disabilities don’t experience hardships, of course they do but at the same time you are a person that can try to not allow others to dictate your feelings, life is hard enough as it is don’t let someone who looks down upon you determine your worth as their opinion is just that… an opinion

  • No, think of an instance like some guy is hosting the visual part of the website on his computer named lemmy.world another guy hosts the same website but it’s on his computer named lemmy.ca their computers their rules, if they shut down their computer or you don’t like how they moderate then you sign up to someone else’s computer to view the website

The subreddit would be on that guys individual computer you could make a subreddit called technology on lemmy.world but even though the guy with the lemmy.ca computer didn’t set up that subreddit you can still view it, it’s basically a portal to view everyone else’s Reddit

If you use an app they have ways of viewing all of Lemmy, All shows you all the “subreddits across everyone’s computers, local would just be the subreddits created on that computer that you signed up to, then subscribed would be subreddits you subscribed to… technology on lemmy.world and just making one up but worldnews on lemmy.ca

  • Fuck extra careful, for me that was part of leaving Reddit way too much overzealousness when it came to moderation, plus Spez is a piece of shit

Think of Lemmy as Reddit the site that you browse, when you sign up to an instance it’s like you are on their personal website that just shows you the webpage so lemmy.world shows you the same Lemmy website that lemmy.ca shows you the only differences are you go by their rules/moderation on that instance, there is more to it but I’m just giving a basic picture of it when it comes to moderation and rules

You set up an account on lemmy.world read the sidebar, if the rules aren’t to your liking try another instance I like sh.itjust.works cuz they aren’t tight asses

  • You do realize the word has a meaning?

“an illness or condition that disrupts normal physical or mental functions”

Generally people are born with 4 limbs because that is the normal, if you are born without them it’s abnormal you need to use words to classify things, the world operates on the norm… it wouldn’t make sense to make all cars be only able to operate for people who were born without limbs

Saying that, just because you have a disorder doesn’t make you any less of a person, anyone that thinks that is a moron… basically don’t get hung up on a word, you had no choice in your biology/birth you just got what you got

They way you describe it as being oppressed or marginalized you are gonna be well on your way to always being a victim if you want to frame your worldview that way
