Is there something Irish folks have moved to instead of alcohol? Over in the states, more people are using marijuana instead. But according to folks I’ve talked to, weed isn’t super popular over there. English guy I chatted with said that stuff like coke and ecstasy is pretty common, but that’s England and I also feel like that might have just been him lol

I actually go by a different name now that has a different reason to it, but that’s the logic a lot of other friends stuck with, a username or game character they connect with. One of my best friends is named Ikora because of the Destiny character for instance.

Gonna do my best to avoid doxxing myself, but the name I go by now I chose for a few reasons:

• It’s a traditional Irish name, I’ve learned in the last couple years that I’m almost completely ethnically Irish.
• It’s fairly gender neutral at least by American standards, so it doesn’t necessarily out me as trans while I’m still pretty early in transitioning.
• I took it from an old folk song I grew up with, so there’s also personal history and ties to my family with it.

Ultimately everyone is gonna have their own reasons for the name they choose, but I’ve tried a couple names over the years to see which ones fit. Sometimes I’ve had ones that I felt a real connection to, but it felt all wrong to get called it. It’s one of those things that can be a journey while you transition.

Also speaking from personal experience, the trans folks I know are delighted to explain why they chose the name the did. It’s not impolite at all to ask, just so long as it’s not the very first thing you ask lol.

I feel like it’s probably pretty common for trans folks who spend a lot of time online. The internet was where we got to explore ourselves.

I’m trans and the name I chose is based off an old username of mine because I got more used to people calling me that.

Come to think of it a lot of my trans friends did something similar.

Oh wow I remember loving their work when I was on Twitter. The atmosphere with all of their pieces are so cool and unique. Shame all of their work seems basically impossible to look at without making a Twitter account 😕

I disagree. I’m not much of a Fallout fan, but I picked up New Vegas for the first time because of the show, installed the Viva New Vegas mods mentioned in another comment, and this game absolutely fucking rules.

Changing the url to sh.reddit.com lets you get around it. Been using that when I’ve needed to look up a reddit thread at work.

The term you’re looking for is cisgender. Trans = “on the other side of”, cis = “on this side of”

I’m not really sure what part of your comment was an opinion, but “people don’t start punk bands anymore” is simply not true. There’s plenty of new punk acts out there, the genre didn’t just come to an abrupt halt in 1990. Just off the top of my head is IDLES and The Chats, but you can find tons of recent bands if you look.

Bummed out to not get any more news on Death Stranding 2, I’d been looking forward to it for weeks. But this teaser is really intriguing, gave a lot of things for me and my friends to speculate on.

That greentext has singlehandedly stopped me from fully hating AI, it still makes me crack a smile to this day.

I’ve replayed the VR sketch so many times already, it’s so great to see these guys again. It’s also been cool to see either of them show up in other places, Nick was a guest on an episode of Game Changer a while ago (also he’s apparently married to Karen Gillan now??)

I’ve never seen someone else in the wild that watches Cracking the Cryptic. Such a nice and cozy channel.

Here’s a few slightly lesser known creators that I’m a big fan of:

• Aliensrock, let’s player who mainly focuses on puzzle games. He gives good commentary on his though process and there’s just something comfy and satisfying about watching a smart person solve puzzles.

• Atrocity Guide, makes long form documentaries on unusual people and groups, etc. She always dives down some absolutely bizarre and fascinating rabbit holes. Personal favorites are her videos on Ullillillia and Nasubi.

• Bloodrunsclear, stitches together clips of movies and TV shows to create fake movie trailers.

• Britanick, legendary sketch comedy duo, every one of their videos has had me in tears laughing. They stopped uploading as much after becoming professional movie and TV writers, but have come back with a patreon in light of the writers strike.

• Monstergarden, this guy who’s been designing a strange and fascinating twist on the traditional fantasy setting via artwork, in universe writing, and even a short animation or two.

• The Exploring Series, an SCP youtuber who goes into very in depth explanations of various SCP articles, as well as occasionally talking about other franchises like 40k or reading Lovecraft stories. Pretty much my only connection to SCP stuff anymore, I mainly like his voice and use his videos to go to sleep.

• Venjent, a drum n bass artist that started blowing up on tiktok after he made a dnb track out of a creaky door. Extremely cheesy, but he’s so sincere and friendly that the cheesiness is charming, it helps that the songs are all bangers too.

• Night Mind, explores and discusses various pieces of internet horror and “unfiction”. As someone that grew up on ARGs and creepypasta, Night Mind is singlehandedly keeping my love of internet horror content alive.
