Why does Trump get a pass?
Because that’s much easier for Facebook than dealing with the clusterfuck that would result if they didn’t.

The fact you think I support Trump or Facebook tells me all I need to know about the quality of the discourse in this thread. No wonder the left can’t get anything done in your shithole of a country.
So Facebook is supposed to block the GOP presidential nominee because other people were charged of a crime and he was not? We’d all like that, but come on.
And in particular, they didn’t silence him because of politics, but because he was conspiring with insurrectionists. Active treason. Stochastic terrorism.
Has he been convicted of that? We can all wring our hands as much as we want, and god knows I’m not a Trump supporter, but Facebook are not going to embroil themselves into a legal battle over this.
Meta said it had a responsibility to allow political expression and that Americans should be able to hear from presidential nominees on an equal basis.
I hate to say it, but they’re right. They can’t silence one of the two candidates for the presidency.
That comic is great, thanks for sharing.
Speak for yourself, I’m installing IE6 right away
Would arguably reduce housing costs on average?
(Canadian here with some knowledge of the industry)
It hasn’t reduced prices on average, but it does flatten out the distribution across the country. I would say that for small towns the short-term effect has been overall negative, because it drives up housing prices in regions that historically have lower wages, and also ties up the construction industry and drives up prices there as well, so it becomes more difficult to both buy an existing house and build a new one. The real winners in the equation are the remote workers who are no longer tied to big cities and can use their “big city money” to buy pretty much whatever they want in a small town.
Long-term (after things have stabilized, maybe a decade, and assuming the “immigrants” stick around) it will be more positive, because the small towns’ tax base and demographics will be rejuvenated. Short term infrastructure pains are real though.
I expect any porn model trained on a sufficient diversity of adult actors could be used to make convincing CP even without having it in the training data.
I know I’m wading into the danger zone here, but let’s also remember we’re talking about teenagers. A (for example) 15 year old’s body type will be closer to an 18 year old’s than a 5 year old’s, so the perfectly legal porn model would work just fine for that, uh, purpose.
And yet the article doesn’t mention whether they’re going to do anything about it. I’m guessing nothing, based on this:
This isn’t the first time the FTC has examined the use of dark patterns. In 2022, it also authored a report that detailed a range of dark patterns, but that wasn’t limited to only subscription websites and apps. Instead, the older report looked at dark patterns across industries, including e-commerce and children’s apps, as well as different types of dark patterns, like those used in cookie consent banners and more.
I don’t think the models are trained on CP. They’re likely trained on widely-available porn.
This is absolutely false, but I should perhaps be thanking you. I’ve been wondering in these Israel vs. Palestine discussions why so many people have such dogshit takes on the matter. It seems many are simply running their mouth despite a complete lack of understanding of the facts. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Israel#Jews
That aside, your willingness to deport millions of people is appalling. You are a hateful, miserable person and what you are advocating for here is a type of genocide.
You know what they did? They gave it back to the people living there, so let’s give Israel back to the people who lived there, that is the majority the Palestinians.
The Israelis can be like White South Africans, stay or fuck off, it’s not important.
Holy fuck. I’m going to be charitable and assume you’re just unaware of history, and not a full-blown Nazi. You know Palestinians and Mizrahi Jews are the same people, right?
Yeah, describing St Petersburg as “Putin’s hometown” is pretty manipulative. It’s a beautiful city, historically a popular tourist destination and home to one of the world’s best museums.
Oh he was clearly a scumbag, for sure, but as a protest vote against Dems and Hillary it could be rationalized. I don’t think many knew how much lasting damage he would do. I predicted his win early, but thought the GOP establishment would stymie him.
The division was because the winners couldn’t coexist,
No, the division was because the winners couldn’t agree on who gets to build a new country where the old one was.
Sounds to me like we’re in agreement here? In any case, the Allies didn’t give have Poland annex German territory or whatever. It continued to exist. Lots of people in this thread on the other hand want to delete Israel altogether and give it all to Palestine (which, incidentally, has never been a state at any point in history)
The division was because the winners couldn’t coexist, not because Germany inherently needed to be split. The whole thing could have been treated like West Germany.
That’s an excellent historical analogy — too bad you’ve misunderstood it. Germany was not dissolved after WW2, and its population was not thrown to the wolves. We only replaced their government. I agree that Likud needs to go (ideally to the Hague) but the people here wanting to wipe the country from the map are dangerous lunatics.
I can 100% forgive people who voted for him the first time around but later realized that was a mistake.
They don’t, but it’s much easier for them this way. It’s mind-boggling that so many in this thread want Facebook to go way out on a limb here and are shocked when the multi-billion dollar company takes the much easier, safer way out. Stop expecting tech megacorps to decide the presidential race for you, people. You may think you want that now, but it’s a VERY bad precedent.
