Honestly it doesn’t even really matter anymore. We should’ve phased out fossil fuels about 30 years ago to have a chance. Just going to enjoy the next 10 years as the climate absolutely shits itself

The worst part where I live(Ontario, Canada), they aren’t even high end, they are just insanely expensive. An absolute pile of shit mass-built subdivision home where I live starts at about $500k. Houses where they cut every single corner possible and only hire trade workers under the table or minimum wage. Houses where they pay off inspectors to be able to build without following codes. Houses where they rush every single worker because they are building them as fast as possible. It’s a fucking joke.

I don’t understand this. I’m 32, I’ve been working labour intensive construction jobs since I was 18, and before that I played football, rugby and hockey pretty much year round. I’ve been pretty tough on my body pretty much my whole life.

99% of days I wake up feeling completely fine. Some times I’ll have a sore back or neck or something, generally from lifting heavy shit or just overworking. Then a few days of recovery, I feel fine. All these memes I see of 30 year olds acting like they are 75 are just so stupid.

Where are you from? I am a carpenter from Ontario, Canada and I was an apprentice in the carpenters union for a few years. They literally hired me on the spot when I sent them my resume. I also worked with a 19 year old kid who’d never had a job in his life before being hired instantly when he walked into the union hall.

Also the pay started as $20 an hour for first years, and went up about $5 an hour for every year of experience. I think if I remember correctly journeymen made around $45 an hour with benefits, and my zone wasn’t a super high COL area.

Maybe depends what apprenticeship you’re looking for but in my experience the carpenters union was dying for guys.

The only side I give a shit about are the civilians just trying to live their lives

Yeah that’s why I said relative normalcy. Just like, most people are still going to work every day, grocery stores still have decent stock, regular services and infrastructure is still maintained, etc etc

Yeah I live in Ontario near the great lakes and our last 2 summers have actually been relatively cool and we’ve had lots of rain too. I bet there are a lot of boomers that live around the great lakes that think climate change is complete horse shit, just because we’ve barely experienced anything negative yet.

But we also had all the smoke from the wildfires this year, we had a crazy snow storm the last 2 winters and last spring we had a wind storm that did tons of damage and knocked out power for days. So there are some negative things, just depends on if people believe it or not.

Yeah dude it’s fine, you also mix used motor oil into the soil and it acts as a good pesticide.

Yeah I was impressed he actually did change his opinion. He’s weird like that though, like he’s definitely a bit of the old school boomer racist when he talks about black people, Asians, Arabs etc. but, his last job before he retired he worked with a bunch of people of all different races. And he would come home saying like “Oh yeah I worked with a bunch of Koreans today, they are all such great guys!” Or he’d tell me about how helpful and nice some Indian guy was to him, or how some black guy was so nice and such a hard worker.

But then he would go right back to blaming immigrants for everything, or thinking that black people are coming to torch their neighbourhood. He’s not actually racist to the people he meets in real life, just the theoretical shit he hears on the news.
