Just began the process of divorcing my wife of 4 years for having a sexual relationship with someone I’ve been friends with for over 20 years. With the marriage goes my sense of financial security, a cohesive circle of close friends, a stable place to live, an adorable pup, and pretty much the entirety of my life plans for the next five years. I’m living paycheck to paycheck, and only barely so.
But I’ve learned to rely on myself and my resolve a lot more, and the relationship I’ve begun to forge with my inner-self is something I wouldn’t trade away for anything. And I’ve become a lot closer with the friends I’ve retained, or it feels like I have.
Because most of them aren’t going to be left holding those houses. They’ll get to ride out the end of their life in comfort and safety before passing quietly surrounded by their worthless progeny. Their shit kids and the kids of their shit kids will be left to suffer from both ends (with due justice), with nothing to show for it but empty rooms and a selfish legacy of destruction.
The time you took to explain your position paid off. I totally get your perspective, and appreciate you persisting.
I don’t think we disagree on anything. Except I don’t joke about beating oil barons to death. The prospect is the only motivation I need to get up in the morning. So that, but unironically.
(Oh, and my deleted comment was a duplicate of the previous comment)
Barring things like a mass-exodus or populist uprising, a population is at the mercy of the infrastructure around it. I am not responsible for the waste caused by my day-to-day activities if there is no other way possible through the means at my disposal.
People need to be careful. The “personal responsibility” re: climate change bullshit is toxic and plays straight into the capitalist narrative. The real numbers speak for themselves, and the primary force behind rampant pollution couldn’t be clearer.

Don’t feed into the narrative that it’s an “all of us” thing. Your actions in society are decided by what that society makes available, and what it doesn’t.
As a fellow Westerner, our only flaw was that we didn’t use every available means to get the corporations and governments who actually bear the blame to own the issue and fix it with their own ill-gotten gains.
In my experience, the majority is great. The problem is that the loudest and most intrusive ones monopolize all the nearby attention.
My recommendation would be to find some quiet third places in which to seek out people you enjoy being around.
My plan A – tie the lanyard of my keys to whatever I need to take with me.
B – Walk out and put it in the car the night before. Interestingly, this is the most annoying to actually do, but I have never regretted it afterward.
We’re just happy to have you over here with us. 😄
As someone with both a car of death and depression, this made me chuckle a bit
LeftTube (definitely covered by union-oriented content) does a fairly good job of propping up important messages and messengers. You might try uploading a few videos and sharing them with the likes of Hasan Piker, TYT, Big Joel, Shaun, and PhilosophyTube (Abigail Thorn). Getting your videos in front of the right eyes can expose them to an enormous audience, and most of these people do nothing but consume recommended content in one way or another.
It almost never happens overnight, but I think there’s an importance to your story, and we need more union-centric content. Shoot me a link, and I’ll be a day-one subscriber.
