Home smart devices in general. I’m avoiding Alexa, Siri or any other thing like that. Besides the obvious privacy issues I see about them, I can only imagine being alone at home, Alexa thinking something talked to her and responding in a distorted voice. No, thanks.
I’m considering a home assistant at some point, by setting up a proper network for the smart devices alone, but that’s as far as I’ll go.
A coworker once said he was a content reviewer for YouTube for some time. He received in dollar in a 3rd world country and said it was a pretty easy job to do, aside from being full WFH. Certainly not the worst job out there.
“Better say sorry than ask for permission”
“You never get a second chance to make a first impression”
Bitwarden, no question
Why, tho?
It is obviously weird in the first date, but I think it should be brought up pretty early in a relationship.
If they don’t have the same goals or view these things remotely the same way, why invest time in a relationship? Just to have it become a problem ahead?
Repeat above for the use of “nazi”. The use of the word has become devalued because people like to fling it at folks with milquetoast centrist opinions, save it for people who are legitimately evil.
Yup, I said the same thing to people around me, when the use of the word “fascist” became a thing in my country. Even clearly moderate opponents were being called fascists left and right. I told people around me that the word would lose its meaning and power. That’s exactly what happened, and when an actual fascist came up, you had nothing against him and its supporters transformed the term into a joke.
The first one already happens, no? Before the last few updates, if you opened a link to a community that “via” another instance, you were kinda screwed. You could see it as a “guest”, but not interact to it. In the recent updates, if you try to interact with it, it will open a popup to ask if you wanna open it in one of the instances you have an account.
Dunno if I misunderstood your point, tho.
The second one is kinda hard, because images already put a lot of pressure on instances storage-wise. Videos would be even more, and not only much more storage needed, but also throughput. I don’t really see it happening any time soon, not really because of the apps, but because of the platform itself and its federated nature.
Even all/hot or active or whatever, really.
The main reason I stopped looking at all. Nothing against NSFW, but I want it when I’m expressly in the mood. I was finding myself masturbating more because of this shit.
Hottest was easily over 50°C. I live in a hot and humid place, so it is even hotter than your typical 50°C. And it’s hell. Really good if you’re on the beach (assuming you manage to avoid insolation), but being home and having to work is the absolute worst I don’t wish to anyone.
Coldest was maybe 15-18°C? I was travelling to a not so cold neighboring state and it was quite good, actually. I prefer the weather like this.
I like the “edit:” append if I edited something, just to make it clear for whoever comes later.
What’s the problem with it?
From their FAQ
Do they want to, tho? My suspicion is that they might not be very open to it.
What was ChapoTrapHouse?
Just fine. Spent last week editing all my comments with PDS. On Monday, I deleted my account and I’m only here so far.
Social media in general has been shit. Not that they ever were very good, but it seems to be worse.
When is it coming for Android? :(
Really wanna try it!
I saw “Blackberry” yesterday and it was a really good experience putting you in the context of those times.
There is one scene where they type a message and wait for it to show up on another device. After a few seconds, it is there and every engineer in the room celebrates.
Then, management/sales guy comes in and they tell about what they’ve just done. He goes yeah, nice, but we do it already, it’s called SMS.
The engineers then say that he is not getting the point. It was a message sent through the network using data, 0 dollars and all and salesman’s eye get brighter.
So yes, I think the sensation was alike.
I’m not really sure about that. I’m not saying it as an expert or anything, but that’s a discussion I saw around here the other day.
Basically, once you federate and copy the content to your instance, it is in your server and you are responsible for it.
I’ll agree with a few things, tho:
It barely happens today, on centralized platforms. They’re hardly obliged to remove content because some judge says so (it does happen, tho, at least in my country)
I’d imagine it would be a bit of a grey area legally, right now. We would need legislation regarding the fediverse. Imagine someone posts child porn in an instance yours is federated to. Your instance copies the content. You notice and defederated the whole instance, but don’t remove the content. The dude is banned by his home instance and his post is removed. But his copy still exists in yours, since you defederated before his ban and content removal.
Just saying that selfhosting brings a lot of things that need to come to your attention.
You also should be concerned about other people’s data on your instance tho
I hate the state of our world as it is right now. It’s been itching inside my head for quite some time alreadu. It probably is somewhat political, because it probably has something to do with capitalism, but I can’t understand how a population that has never been so productive still has to work their ass off in order to simply eat and lay in a bed safely. The more I think about it, the less sense it makes and the more I hate how natural it is for seemingly everyone around me.
I’m not one of these people, despite also not being wealthy at all, I have a job, I don’t get paid top dollar but I have a safe house, food on the table and I can do a little bit more with my money, and yes, that’s it, EVERYTHING seems to revolve around money.
