He has been a terrible candidate though. If the polling is accurate and trump has a slight lead in popular vote, Biden has less than a 5% chance of winning the election (according to Nate Silver’s models). Unfortunately, this is probably optimistic as polling has overestimated the democratic vote in the last 2 presidential elections including the one that included these same two candidates.
True, but I feel like people have been talking past each other about this.
On the one hand, you have people saying Biden’s cabinet would do a better job than Trump, which is true. On the other hand, you have people saying Biden is going to lose to trump unless he somehow makes a dramatic turnaround in the next couple months, which is also true according to all available data.
The real question isn’t whether Biden is better than trump, it’s whether Biden would serve the country better by stepping down.
Yeah that’s an excellent point. Older generations still prefer phone calls but I imagine increasingly the only people who want to call will be the people who can’t fix their issue via an automated system.

I always thought the Chinese Room argument was kinda silly. It’s predicated on the idea that humans have some unique capacity to understand the world that can’t be replicated by a syntactic system, but there is no attempt made to actually define this capacity.
The whole argument depends on our intuition that we think and know things in a way inanimate objects don’t. In other words, it’s a tautology to draw the conclusion that computers can’t think from the premise that computers can’t think.

I think that people don’t really understand what it means when they claim they have no plans to retire. My in-laws are always saying things like “I’ll work until I die” while they take out debt to go on vacations but they recently brought up that we should make sure to get an extra bedroom for them if/when we buy a house. Because ram is incredibly cheap and developer hours are incredibly expensive. I think it’s a bit silly too but there’s just no financial incentive for companies to care about memory usage when they know most consumer devices have tons of extra headroom.

I’m not actually sure that would be a bad outcome for dems…but I think the optics would make it a non starter.
If command was just the control key moved over I wouldn’t have a problem with it, the issue is that the control key still exists and is used in a lot of applications, often inconsistently. It’s a constant frustration to me when I hit the wrong one either due to muscle memory or simply because I forgot how each specific application is set up.
The argument for separation the command and control keys isn’t entirely wrong as using the control key for gui shortcuts was always a bit of a hack, but OSX doesn’t actually have any way to enforce the separation there, so it just makes the user experience worse in 3rd party applications which weren’t written primarily for OSX, which is unfortunately the case for most applications I use.
That’s the default configuration but there’s actually no guarantee that those drives map bijectively to physical devices.
