Reddit improved their anti-ban evasion system, cuz it’s the sixth or more failed attempt at evading a permanent ban. Never more, I am staying here.

FUCK YOU, SPEZ!

Got banned for harassing mods because I was asking why I got banned automatically for participating in a different subreddit. As soon as I sent my second request asking why I was banned, I got permabanned.

Me too, they are far too quick to bring out the perma ban. My 10 year old account went from a minor subreddit ban (for asking why a mod banned someone else) to global perma ban within 12 hours. In fairness I reported the mod and said he’s a neckbeard but that shit isn’t worth of global perma lol.

Overall, I think this is good news for lemmys future tbh

I got banned by a bot because I went into an antivax subreddit to question them. The fact I posted on a “forbidden” subreddit got me auto banned by about a dozen subreddits, instantly. Then I forgot I was banned by one of them and months later posted with another account and got permabanned for ban evasion.

      Fuck reddit, petty tyrants.

Absolutely killing me right now to watch what’s going on in /r/worldnews re: the Gaza Strip. Absolute echo chamber of reposted IDF propaganda, genocidal rhetoric against Palestinians - all calls for peace, any contextualization or describing the history of the conflict get permabanned and muted, appeals to admins are denied as usual. Meanwhile, international observers describing the situation as an ongoing genocide. What do you call censoring a community to support that, besides “incitement to genocide”?

Site should be forever abandoned, they have lost every last shred of credibility.

Start your niche community on lemmy then advertise it in some other groups. You might be surprised how much better it is here.

I still have a bunch of accounts but it’s actually not a friendly site to use. I remember telling friends about it back in the day and they’d try and use the site, then they’d come back and be like “everyone on that site is an asshole.” I’d explain it in some dumb way but it’s basically true in essence. I even modded some default subs like 10 years ago and it was the first time I started hating the site.

Even hobby subs had these issues. Like the top post in r/synthesizers would be about some youtube personality and people debating about drama. People who post actual music and productive things don’t get upvoted. Saying you liked the “wrong” people got you made fun of. Super trend/hype based as well. I posted asking for advice for a product to buy once, and was heavily discouraged from getting what I thought was the right thing, I got it anyway, and now it’s basically a meme as the top recommended product for that purpose on that sub.

Basically moved to forums and discord servers for a lot of interests and it’s so much better than reddit. Early 2010s was the golden age for the site back when there’d be those reddit meetups and stuff.

It’s also so fake, people performing the idea they’re successful at the hobby as a sort of feedback loop of validation. Posts about buying a thing or showing their stuff always gets more interest than someone engaging in the hobby, with the exception of influencer types or the upper echelon of aspiration.

Joining other communities… music and car related to be specific, I post a work in progress and get instant feedback and messages from people in the relevant scene to share their process etc. The influencers are in the mix with everyone else and are contributing things everyone can use.

I found it took about 3 months to get bored with a subreddit. That was about how long it took to see the same postings and comments cycling over and over.

Everything is being automated. The Admins are automated. The mods are increasingly automated. The subs are filled with botspam. The comments (have always been, but are now overwhelmingly) filled with bot-chatter.

The end goal of Reddit is to automate away anything that might cut into the company’s bottom line. I’m convinced they’re going to functionally do away with the comments section sooner or later. Just set up a byzantine set of bureaucratic hurdles that no human can actually clear. Then all that’s left is the bots, and all you are allowed to do is look through the glass at the simulation.

      That’s not exclusive to Reddit.

Looks at 196 here on Lemmy and their massive pissy baby ban list.

Edit: If you disagree, go look at the bans and their reasoning in the mod log. It’s insane, and I mean that word in the literal sense. Some fun things: they ban people for not agreeing with them vocally enough. They’ve banned people for arguing that the world isn’t beyond saving if we try. They’ve banned because (and I quote) “Get out of here with that my children matter shit”. It’s a lunatic brigade run by a clown.

They are something else. Think like TheDonald was on Reddit, but for trans people and memes.

My first exposure to them was a thread by a mod saying that you MUST post absolute and unconditional not just approval, but promotion of what they say politically or you will be banned. It was fucking wild and nearly put me off Lemmy altogether.

I spent about an hour and kept getting reply notifications, just like the one I got now for this (now over a month old) post. I reply. I like to interact. It’s not arguing, it was legitimate discussion, and yes, I was discussing how people like to strawman others. To my mind, it was civil.

The message I got from the mod was - nearly word for word - “get the fuck out of here with that my children matter bullshit.”

I did not misrepresent the situation.

As an addendum, the thread were I was banned was not my first exposure to them. You may be conflating two interactions.

They use browser fingerprinting. Not only do you need a new IP address, but you need to make your browser characteristics look sufficiently different from anything you’ve used before (including all metadata that your browser sends to Reddit.com like OS, time zone, CPU, GPU, etc). Otherwise they will re-associate you and ban your new account. It’s annoying as fuck.

I still have no idea what they banned me for. Spez is on record saying it’s fine to create a new account as long as you don’t repeat the behavior that got you banned, but their actions say no, you’re banned for life and there’s nothing you can do.

The effort required to get back on Reddit is just way to high for day to day usage, so I just stay on here mostly. I still read Reddit for niche stuff from time to time, but yeah it does suck to just read and never be allowed to comment.

I finally overwrote all my comments and deleted my account. 16 years there, but as soon as I checked the front page this week before deleting, every comment and post was the same old “this” and “take my upvote” and vitriolic hate toward different or uncommon opinions, zero dialogue, such a mess

    Thanks lemmings

Yeah I like that we can actually hold real conversations here, as far as ‘real’ goes of course.

Y’indeed I love seeing notifications here and reload every few minutes to see if someone replied to me (not now obviously because I’m high and forgot to reply to you earlier and it’s also taking me a good few minutes to type up this reply).

On Reddit I usually hoped that everyone upvoted, of course, and that none of them reply. Especially when I argumented with someone, because I’m actually really bad at argumenting about things I perceive as negative. […]

The rest is just a stoned tirade (I didn’t want to delete it because I find it amusing), there’s no Tl;Dr to be made, just don’t read it unless you choose to make me a god and want to use the genoxidedev1 lore to practice that new religion. Anyways:

[…] I’m also bad at argumenting about things I’m good at, which only leaves me being good at argumenting about things I’m bad at, but I’f im good at argumenting about things I’m bad at it would mean that I’m good at argumenting about me argumenting about things I’m good at, so, if we use that logic for all the other things I could be doing I’m actually the best at everything. Wow. I just lost an argument against myself, cool or something.

I’m in the process of deleting my posts in a few accounts in preparation to delete them.

Reddit isn’t the same place it was when I first signed up. On so many levels it proceeded to get worse year after year. Shitty mods, paid political bot brigading to drown out discussion, general discourse devolution, innovation decline of generally loved features are some of my biggest complaints of that platform.

Don’t get me wrong reddit was always a bit of anarchy, but the best comments somehow managed to rise up. Not so much anymore. Maybe I’m just getting old and some of the comment contents don’t interest me in the same way it used to.

I don’t mind being part of this community even though some of the sub’s have less activity. The activity seems to be of a better quality for the most part imho.

For me I don’t miss reddit at all.

Ridiculous, and there’s no appealing it either. Now if I want to check out my niche communities I need to load Reddit in a private tab with a VPN to scroll around my “inactive” account, but I never comment.
