On reddit I was a lurker that posted like once or twice a year, but ever since joining lemmy I’ve started posting multiple times a day.

It’s a bit ironic that I’ve seen this exact same post about three times already. Apparently you’re the only one posting stuff.
Or maybe I don’t know how Lemmy works.
Default sort for posts is “active”.
So older threads show up on the front page, and because that’s what people see first, it’s what they comment on.
Which keeps the post on “active” for longer.
You may want to sort by “new” or “top hour”/“top 6 hours” to see newer posts.
More people doing that and engaging with newer posts means they’ll show up on the default “active” sort.
See, I had a feeling I didn’t know how it worked. Thanks for the pointers!
The default view is for “Active” posts. This thread is very active. Change to the dropdown from “Active” to “New” and you’ll see other stuff. You can also change the view from “Posts” to “Comments” and see new comments to different threads.
if you’re looking for new / smaller / diverse communities, you can try this: https://lemmyfind.quex.cc/
It sorts by the newest created communities first (regardless of instance) and you can filter it.
