I hate how quickly this site has gained a mainstream foothold while the Fediverse is so much the obvious choice.

We have our issues, Mastodon is far from perfect but you cant tell me that they are somehow problem free.

Mastodon has terrible discoverability. It feels like a ghost town. It’s just not suitable as a Twitter replacement.

I think this is the primary hitch.

Personally, if there was a service like Bluesky that let you choose your algorithm instead of just being purely chronological, I would jump on that very fast. That’s what Bluesky’s killer feature is, imo.

Apart from, y’know, not being the hellsite that is Twitter.

I would argue that what makes it good. Mastodon is only as good as you make it but you have to take personal responsibility. That’s something that people should get accustomed to taking again.

@webghost0101@sopuli.xyz I guess, though, on this occasion, I’m happy for the EU to not look at the data-security of the Fedi. 😆

This is positive news for Bluesky.

If there is fuckery, they have to fix it.
If nothing bad is found is also ok.

I would prefer to have Mastodon stay out of the limelight because we might need it after they target BlueSky. Mastodon is safe from attacks by an incoming autocratic administration precisely because it is too small for them to give any fucks about.

That’s not how autocratic regimes are operating. Small communities are never safe. In fact, they are convenient targets to make an example of.

They can also be infiltrated with sockpuppets far more easily, like Russia has been doing for a long time now.

the EU has been promoting Mastodon and the fediverse ever since Musk bought twitter, encouraging european governments to use Mastodon as a broadcasting platform and funding it through NGI.
