The United States on Tuesday imposed sanctions aimed at disrupting gold mining activities that fund the Wagner Group in Africa, vowing to hold the mercenaries accountable for abuses days after they staged a mutiny in Russia.

Exactly, why sanctions now, after Russian coup attempt, and not when they fought against Ukraine?

For a year and a half, no less. I don’t want to put on my conspiracy theory pants, but the only thing I can think of is that the United States is also using Wagner covertly, and wants to let Russia continue to amass funds to continue their war effort. Wagner then acted as a political entity separate from Russia, and THEN America steps up and does something. The time to isolate Wagner was in the first phase of “Isolate Russia through sactions and trade restrictions.” Leaving it until now is weird as hell
