(Descending) modulating songs
Also if you have any comments on Strawberry Fields Forever would love to hear them!
- Layla - Eric Clapton (i’ve heard mentioned)
I don’t know enough music theory to know if it fits the definition of downward modulation, but upon reading your question I immediately thought of Portishead - Glorybox
Excellent track. The whole album ‘Dummy’ is excellent imo.
Glorybox is basically Ike’s Rap II by Isaac Hayes featuring Beth Gibbons. I like Glorybox better though then the original with Isaac’s vocal.
Tricky also used the same Isaac Hayes sample on Hell’s round the corner.
That is a very cool sounding song, add it to my collection.
I don’t know or think it actually downward modulates in the sense of it getting lower in the key sense but it definitely has a descending chromatic chord progression, I believe. But my music theory is also rusty so if some music-person wants to clarify have at it
Might do a seperate question just for that, maybe make it a series
I’d say almost anything by Radiohead, but specifically, paranoid android.
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds?
Yellow Submarine?
Are those actually downward modulating?
The Beatles ‘Penny Lane’
Whitney Houston’s ‘How Will I Know’
XTC’s ‘Reign Of Blows’
Johnny Cash ‘I Walk the Line’
I’m not sure, I actually answered before the edit was federated!
My bad 😅 I knew I needed to clarify it hah
In My Room - Jacob Collier
