Far-right agitators have long enjoyed an unparalleled level of impunity on Telegram.
As riots swept the U.K. in recent days, far-right groups plotted attacks on immigration centers and swapped manuals for making petrol bombs on the fringe social network Telegram.
Social media platforms have faced intense criticism for hosting extremist rhetoric that has inflamed violent disorder since****the killing of three children in Southport in a stabbing attack late July.
But while Elon Musk’s provocations on X (formerly Twitter) have grabbed the limelight, right-wing agitators have long enjoyed an unparalleled level of impunity on Telegram.
Unfortunately, that was the point of Telegram.
It’s almost like complaining that whispering is legal.
Okay? I never said anything about legality. Look up the history of Telegram. It’s basically a Russian agitation fomenter.
Not arguing.
Q: wouldn’t this be just as easy on fediverse networks?
Not really, since all messages are public, and you can also grab whoever is maintaining a given instance.
I’m out of the loop. Got any decent links I can follow this up on? I don’t want to be a part of the problem but I do primarily use Telegram up until now.

Thanks. I read the article and the situation is pretty bad.
I’ve seen people who decry the genocide in Palestine get ratioed or blocked on Microsoft, Meta, Twitter and possibly others. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cger582weplo
That’s one of many examples but Meta are also complicit in genocide, by allowing disinformation to fan the flames as they profit from the advertising. So there is a widespread problem of unethical behaviour.
So I wonder what the better option is or if Signal would be immune. I can happily stick to SMS too.
