I’m pointing out what the rules are/were at the Olympics, and some background on why athletes are not in “trouble” for not mentioning they have an illness. The World Health Organization worked with the ioc to make rules they felt was safe. Was it capitalism driven to make money, or is it simply because it makes no sense to live in bubble wrap forever, I don’t know!

I guess I see it as much of a danger as anything else in life at this point, and it feels as if most people agree.

I’m not denying it exists. It just scientifically seems to be less significant than most other things. I think it is 1.5% of deaths now per some quick CDC research. That’s way less than an average flu season. What’s the stats on long COVID? Is that happening to a significantly relevant amount of people? Genuinely curious. Not baiting or anything.

I don’t “live in a bubble”. I’m just an average dude. I travel a lot half the year in USA and EU and chill in remote areas all winter. I understand my experience isn’t everyone’s and I value your insight.

      live in bubble wrap forever

Shit like this is why you’re getting so much flack. It’s so fucking patronizing it makes me only want to tell you to fuck off

Wearing a mask, social distancing, and regularly washing your hands isn’t living in bubble wrap. Having basic concern for your fellow man isn’t living in bubble wrap.

I know multiple people with long covid. I know even more who are immunocompromised who are forced into hermitude because people like you cannot fathom to understand the experience of living a life that isn’t yours and how actions completely out of your control can completely destroy your life. Please do some soul searching and find a shred of empathy.

I’m sure the over 4000 families in the past 3 months who had someone die from covid feel similarly to you, that their loved one was not statistically significant and that it’s for the best that they’re dead so people like you don’t have to live in bubble wrap

I lost an uncle and a grandmother to COVID. My heart goes out to all those with loved ones dying from this and all causes.

I’m fine with some rules about basic hygiene and common sense. The ioc doesn’t have those. Why? I’m not some wild antivaxxer out here spouting shit. I’m in here defending this Olympian who did nothing wrong in my opinion.

And as I understand it, yall will just call me names like fascist and plague rat and told to fuck off - Because I simply feel even the slightest differently and have chosen to question this Olympian being under fire.

It’s all about “follow the science” until it doesn’t align with their opinion. WHO actions are sometimes questionable and the intentions are not always quite clear, but it’s the same source of information that was used before, when covid was all around.

Hmmm did the science change or did the engine of capital decide it couldn’t afford to have people treat covid in the way it should be. How is advocating for wearing a mask now in the midst of these regular waves no longer following science

I think it was less “enlightening” and more just you reaffirming that you couldn’t be bothered. You don’t believe masks are needed for people with an infectious illness? You don’t think someone that is sick should stay-at-home?

“I lost an uncle and a grandmother to COVID”, kinda feel bad for them that all you think of it now is “most places on earth treat it as the common cold nowadays.” How many members in your family have you lost to the common cold so far in the past few years?

“This all reflects my reality where I haven’t heard about or been affected by COVID for years now.”

“I’m just an average dude (LOL). I travel a lot half the year in USA and EU and chill in remote areas all winter.” Huh, wonder why your arguments sound like anti-covid mandates. Your dog whistles of “Are you suggesting that everyone needs to be staying home and not working? If everyone doesn’t go to work, how will people survive (food, water, climate control)?” are pure trolling. Plenty of people worked during the pandemic and only quarantined when necessary, you know, common sense. People might be harsh towards you on here but you’re definitely deserving of it with your responses.

Im a big fan of masks and staying home when sick. Always have been. My whole life. Covid included.

                You’re way off base here.

The person suggested that everyone should be staying home and I was genuinely curious how they thought the world would run if no one worked.

You’ve got me labeled and nothing I can say will help you hear my position and discuss in good faith so this can just stop now.

The WHO and IOC have rules. Athletes aren’t breaking the rules.

Nah, you read everyone should be staying at home. Person had a following qualifier that you ignored.

“I didn’t realize there were covid extremists still thinking masks and stay-at-home orders are needed.”

“Im a big fan of masks and staying home when sick. Always have been. My whole life. Covid included.”

You’re all over the place. How am I suppose to follow along with your extremes that contradict each other? This must be a “we should follow common sense, but don’t have common sense regulations in place” argument I suppose.
