I’m feeling nostalgic. How good was it being a kid (if you are my age) and waiting for new episodes of the Simpsons, or even daily episodes on Channel 10 at 6 just after neighbours (and my dad yelling to turn the tv down because he hated the neighbours theme song)
I remember back in the very early 90s when Channel 9 would air Michael Jackson or Madonna’s video clip for their latest song. It would go for a half an hour with a Molly Meldrum interview. The buzz at school that day and the day after was electric. Kid’s going “It was so good that I taped it”. Now I was not a fan of either but I knew I had to watch it.
Something you’d relate to with your recent house hunting: when you check out a listing and the place hasn’t been substantially updated in 30 or 40 years. The faded but well-kept carpet, the amber glass and three lamp light fittings, undercover areas with green corrugated fibreglass, the kitchen table, the vinyl covered kitchen chairs with their chrome legs, daphne and gardenia near the meterbox and roses along the driveway, the coir mat at the front door, kids bikes on the front lawn and a podium tennis pole embedded in the back…
Totem tennis! The dog fucking loved it! That amber glass you speak of I have one. It’s on the sliding door between my kitchen and lounge room. It a pain to clean.
Halley’s Comet!..I went to someone’s farm party outside of Geelong to see that. Got handed some binoculars to see it, but I didn’t know I had to stabilise them so all the stars were moving…
I remember I used to watch the Simpsons in the morning before playing footy. I’d be on the floor with the blanket over me and the ducted heating which created an amazing oven until it suddenly went cold for some reason.
Also, when I was 12, Dad bought a new tv, so I got the little CRT TV with the coatwire antennas for my bedroom. It had faux wood panelling down the side too, I loved it.
I would close my bedroom door and stay up late with the TV on 1 volumn, I’d sit right up close to it, and watch South Park and then Drawn Together lol.
No siblings, no disturbances. I credit both shows for my inappropriate and wack sense of humour haha
I’ve been going through and watching episodes of the Simpsons and whenever I watch the intro it’s giving me so much nostalgia for watching it at 6pm on both channel 10 and Fox8.
Not nostalgia particularly, but it was a blast from the past when the other day I found one of those old ring-pull tabs that used to be on drink cans. Also called ‘pull-tabs’ I think. Not sure when they were phased out in Aus, but in the UK they were mostly gone by the late 80s and replaced by the ‘stay-tab’ we all know today. The ring-pulls were sharp and dangerous and were littered a lot, so I certainly don’t miss them!
daylight savings makes me nostalgic. I used to fucking love it when daylight savings started: it meant me and the other kids in the street were gonna be out on our bikes , at the park, rollerskating (later blading), whatever for HOURS after school, plus it was almost christmas, and summer, and all the good things.
i mean, I still love DS, it just also makes me nostalgic.
I have fond memories of watching first run simpsons on my older brothers little tv in his bedroom while tucking in to my looney tunes microwave meal that my mum would make when I was being fussy. the Daffy duck spaghetti and meatballs and bugs bunny chicken nuggs were my favourites

I remember that specifically when Black or White came out. The face morphing blew my 13 year old mind.

I’ve seen some of those houses haha

My late mother’s house had it in a pattern of bottle bottom circles, in the sliding door to the lounge.
Haha. That’s the one I’ve got.

Gosh you are not wrong about the size of Killer Pythons these days.

Hmm I think getting home after school and racing down to the park to meet friends there to play for an hour or two.
Also fondly remember episodes of Totally Wild on in the afternoons.
All of that. Yes.

Man, remember the weekend Simpsons marathons. They were so good.

DS was just the best. Playing cricket in the street until all hours. Good times.
