      You can be banned for a lot more than just being a dick. And the average user on the platform kind of demonstrates that that’s not really, in and of itself, the primary criteria used to ban people.

    Shadowbans are sitewide and almost always automates actions to counter spam.

    Your chances are better if you avoid doing “spam-like” things:

    • Using URL shorteners
    • Posting links to several subreddits at once
    • Using a lot of links in your comments
    • All of the above on a fresh account
    • etc.

    If you are unlucky and caught in a false positive, there is an /appeals form that is usually helpful.

      You can also get shadowbanned on a specific sub. But I’m guessing OP is asking about sitewide
