Some of the new sanctions are being taken to address "significant concern" about the Nicaraguan government's "continued repression" of the Nicaraguan people.
This has nothing to do with Nicaragua taking Germany to the ICJ for the latter’s complicity in Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian population.
This also has nothing to do with Nicaragua winning a case in the ICJ against the US (1986) for its arming of Contra rebels and mining Nicaraguan ports, and the US just ignoring the result.
