I love tvp so much! I prepare it by rehydrating it 1:2 with hot water or broth. Usually it’s 100g tvp with 200g hot water, then a scoop of better than bouillon to give it some flavor. I mix that in to my pasta sauce or cook it with some sautéed veggies for vegan taco night.

How do you usually prepare it?

I’m pretty new to TVP, I prefer soy curls to be honest but these were on sale.

I thought these smelled strange, not bad really, just kind of toasty. I ended up rinsing it with water like rice and squeezing it in water, then dumping the water, filling again, squeezing again and dumping. I repeated this like 3 times until it rinsed clear and had no smell at all.

Once it was rinsed 1/2 cup tvp turned to 1.5 cups of hydrated plain tvp I put a pic of above. I then mixed soy sauce, smoked paprika, paprika, salt, pepper, sage, red chili flakes and diced vegetables.

Once I had this mix i sauteed it in my pan a while then added the shells and potatoes and covered with just enough water to cover and simmered until it was done and absorbed all the water hamburger helper style.
